The Essential Bike Safety Check: What to Do Before Every Ride

Whether you’re a casual or seasoned rider, performing a safety check on your bike before each ride is crucial for your safety and the longevity of your bike. Here’s a simple and quick guide to ensure your bike is in top shape before you hit the road.

Quick Check: Air, Brakes, Chain

Check tire pressure: Ensure your tires are properly inflated to the recommended pressure (usually marked on the side of the tire). Use a tire gauge to check the pressure accurately.

Test the brake levers: Squeeze both the front and rear brake levers to ensure they engage properly. The brake pads should contact the rims or rotors firmly.

Lubricate the chain: A well-lubricated chain ensures smooth shifting and reduces wear. Apply bike-specific lubricant and wipe off excess.

Bolt Check

Wheels: Ensure both wheels are securely fastened. Quick-release levers should be tight, and bolts should be properly torqued.

Handlebars and Stem: Check that the handlebars are straight and the stem is tight.

Test Ride

Before you head out, take a quick test ride to ensure everything feels right. Pay attention to any unusual sounds or vibrations and address any issues before continuing your ride.

Go Ride!

Performing a safety check on your bike before every ride takes just a few minutes but can make a big difference in your riding experience and safety.
